Head of Research (Product Development)

The Opportunity:
 

As a growing, diverse and passionate team we’re eager to find our next teammate to join us in our mission to change the way the world thinks about food waste.  We are looking for a Head of Research (Product Development) to help in putting the Science into Food Cycle Science. In this role, you are tasked with researching relevant topics that will lead to product development efficiencies and breakthroughs.  You will work closely with the engineering team to tackle complex problems and challenges that we are faced with in our product development initiatives.  Your findings will be used by the engineering team and implemented into the FoodCycler line of products.

What You Will Do:

The Head of Research in Product Development is a key position within the organization responsible for exploring the complex engineering challenges in the development of food waste recycling products. Reporting to the Director of Engineering, you will have an acute attention to detail as you investigate efficiencies in areas such as heat transfer, thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, dehydration efficacy and the general breakdown of organics.  Your goal is to find breakthroughs to help us in our product development initiatives.

What We Are Looking For:

You will have a Master’s in a related field and a minimum of 5 years’ experience in manipulating data sets and building statistical models and draw insights from large data sets. You have experience in the following:

  • Working with, and creating data architectures

  • Creating and using advance machine learning algorithms and statistics: regression, simulation, scenario analysis, modeling, clustering etc.

  • Analyzing data from 3rd party providers: Google Analytics, Site Catalyst, Coremetrics etc.

  • /presenting data for stakeholders.

As well you are well versed in advanced statistical techniques and concepts, are experienced in their application and know about a variety of machine learning techniques and their real-world advantages/drawbacks. You possess strong problem-solving skills with an emphasis on product development. You demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills.

The following qualifications would be an asset:

  • A PhD in a related field.

  • General mechanical engineering knowledge.

Product Design Engineer (2 positions available)

What You Will Do:

The Product Design Engineer, reports to the Director of Engineering, will be responsible for assisting with the design, analysis and testing of new FoodCycler products and the further development of current offerings. You will work with other Product Engineers or team members, including marketing and business development teams.  You will be tasked with identifying and facilitating product features and improvements, with a focus on quality, ease of manufacturing, cost control and appearance.

You will prepare and analyze product drawings, specifications, and prototypes, preparing reports as necessary at each stage of development. You will provide estimates and monitor costs, schedules, yield, and quality targets. You will investigate design issues and establish solutions to reduce problems and barriers to successful manufacture.  You will be a key member of the product development team to ensure that FoodCycler produces appealing, high quality, environmentally sound products that are second to none.

What We Are Looking For:

You will have an undergraduate (four-year college or university) degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.  As well you will have a minimum of 3+ years’ experience in mechanical engineering product design. Your sound technical and Quality Control background includes problem solving and root cause analysis and you have knowledge of manufacturing processes such as Injection moulding/Die-casting/Sheet metal stamping etc.  You have proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel.

These are the competencies we’re looking for:

What You Will Do:

The Business Development Manager’s position is a key position within the organization which will be relied upon to seek out, and secure, new Business to Business (B2B), and Business to Consumer (B2C) opportunities for continued growth of the company. Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the role is responsible for building and expanding on key customer relationships with new and existing clients and aligning with the Solutions manager who focuses on Business to Government (B2G) opportunities.  This role will manage existing clients to ensure ongoing satisfaction and retain business and will cold-call within a defined market or geographic area to ensure continual opportunities for business growth.

You will have an undergraduate (four-year college or university) degree in business administration, marketing or a related field of study.  As well you will have a minimum of 3+ years’ experience as a Business Development Manager or in a similar role. Finance Assistant

The Finance Assistant reports to the Controller and Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and is responsible for providing overall accounting, payroll and office administration support for the company. The ideal candidate is highly organized, has a strong attention to detail and works well in a team environment.

What You Will Do:

You will provide accounting support to the Controller and CFO in the following areas as we are a small and growing organization.  You will coordinate accounting and administrative activities daily amongst the finance, sales and service teams, support the CFO in maintenance of policies and procedure documentation, assist with financial reconciliations, year-end files, provide other analysis as required, and maintain an up-to-date, complete and systematic filing system to support the financial records.

You will also independently complete routine tasks as assigned, using standard procedures and established practices in the areas of accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll/benefits and general administration. Typical responsibilities for accounts payable will include processing invoices and entering data into QuickBooks, liaising with vendors to ensure strong AP processes payments and following up as required with our vendors, preparing reports, and reconciliations, and creating bi-weekly payments.  For the accounts receivable function, you will verify sales orders with our Sales and Operations departments, and generate invoices for customers when goods are shipped, and respond to customer inquiries in a timely and professional manner.

We will need you to assist our CFO with HR administration matters including preparing the bi-weekly payroll submission for approval to Ceridian, and as administrator for our benefits program, prepare updates or reports when needed.  We are a small yet nimble team so there will be other administrative tasks to help out with from time to time.

What We Are Looking For:

We are looking for someone early in their financial career to grow with us.  You will have a Bachelor’s degree in business administration, accounting, finance or related field.  You will have 3-5 years of accounting experience and considerable knowledge of accounting principles.  It is important that you have experience and proficiency with QuickBooks Enterprise version or experience with similar software. Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office products (specifically Word and Excel) is required as we use these every day.

  1. Fully functioning, independent accounts payable, with streamlined processes.

  2. Has developed an effective liaison between Finance, Operations and Sales to ensure customers are accurately billed in a timely manner.
